In 2014, when Mr. Narendra Modi took oath as India’s Prime Minister, one of his first few initiative was ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. He appealed to the people of India to keep the country clean and hygienic and the opposition parties laughed it off as a ‘publicly stunt’.

But this didn’t stop PM Modi and he kept urging people in every rallies and public speeches. He promised the women of villages in India that he will built toilets for them and also make more public toilets so that people don’t urinate on the roads, causing more harm to the hygiene and environment.
Since 2014, the Modi government has build more than 4 crore toilets across India and more than 1, 80,000 villages, 130 districts and three states- Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF).

India’s sanitation coverage has also increased from a meager 38 % in 2012 to 60.53% in 2016. To give you a better insight into the success of Swachh Bharat mission, let us look at some of the notable places which have changed after the launch of Swachh Bharat.
