This year’s Kids’ Choice Awards was very political as The March for Our Lives protests were what most stars talked about at the awards show. In fact, it was even part of the opening monologue of none other than the host, John Cena.
As vids and photos from the marches all across the country showed in the background, Cena said: ‘I know it is going to be an amazing night, but kids everywhere have already made it an amazing day. So I want to take a moment to celebrate what kids across the nation accomplished today. All over the country, all over the world, children made their voices heard with the March for Our Lives, and it all happened because you want to make the world a better place.’
Cena went on to claim it is super inspiring to see the young generation taking charge, noting that change is possible only when people work together towards a common goal.
‘That is the true spirit of Nickelodeon and of course, the Kids Choice Awards. So congratulations, let’s hear it loud and proud for all the kids who made a difference today.’
Millie Bobby Brown, who was also the night’s first winner, proudly wore a shirt with the names of all 17 victims of the February 14 Parkland shooting.
She even dedicated her win to ‘the angels among us.’
But of course, John Cena and Millie Bobby Brown were not the only ones to pay tribute to the rallies.
Camila Cabello, Liza Koshy, and Zendaya are just a few of the well-known names who acknowledged the movement’s accomplishments.
‘I just want to say everybody who I marched beside this very morning and everyone out there, thank you for what you’re doing, and continue to know your voice is a real thing, and it is a powerful thing, and it is a beautiful thing, and you should never let anyone tell you your age should limit you from actually feeling and doing what you need to do in the world,’ Zendaya encouraged.
